Everybody interested in genome engineering is invited to the 5th International Conference on Genome Editing and Gene Therapy, which will take place in Osaka, Japan, on August 19-20, 2020. The conference consists of the keynote, oral, and poster presentations. The leading idea this year is Innovation Techniques Involved in Genetics and Genome Summaries.

The conference background

Genome (gene) editing or engineering is a sort of genetic engineering when DNA is embedded, excluded, transformed, or replaced in the living organism's genome. The previous methods insert genetic material into a host genome haphazardly, in contrast to gene editing, which makes it into a specific location.

In 2018 the method of engineered nucleases or so-called molecular scissors was applied. This editing technique is based on the CRISPR-Cas system (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) — direct repeats and unique sequences in the DNA of bacteria that, together with associated genes, protect the cell from foreign genetic elements (infections). In 2015 the CRISPR-Cas system was recognized as the Breakthrough of the Year by Science.

In May 2019, the Chinese lawyers announced: because of the first gene-edited human's creation by the Chinese scientist He Jiankui, anyone who can influence the human genome with the help of gene editing (like CRISPR) is responsible for any adverse outcome.

Program

The conference is divided into 12 sessions:

  1. gene editing
  2. cancer genomics
  3. molecular biology
  4. plant genomics and molecular plant sciences
  5. stem cell biology
  6. structural biology
  7. human genomics
  8. clinical genomics
  9. bioinformatics in genomics
  10. genome medicine
  11. microbial genomics
  12. genome engineering

The Young Scientist Award is also an essential part of the Genome Editing Conference 2020. Participants who have contributed to the gene engineering development will be admitted and provided with the Young Scientist Award that allows researchers to exchange their experience with the experts.

Who can take part in the 5th International Conference on Genome Editing and Gene Therapy?

  • young scientists
  • faculty members
  • postdoctoral fellows
  • Ph.D. scholars
  • candidates
  • persons from the scientific industry.

Conditions of participation

  • Requests must be in English only
  • Materials must meet the case of the conference sessions
  • Maximum 2 papers are permitted to submit
  • The abstract must be submitted online as per the given abstract template
  • Abstracts must be written in Times New Roman and font size will be 12
  • The abstract must contain the title, name, affiliation, country, speakers' biography, recent photo, image, and reference.

Conditions of acceptance

To receive the award, the laureate must refer to the presentation for which the award is given. It will be published on the website by the agreement of the author. Missing a deadline and untimely PPT submission will lead to the award exclusion.

Award announcements

The official announcement of the awardees will be represented after the Genome Editing and Gene Therapy Conference completion.
