How it works
Bookimed is an independent patient experience sharing platform. We are not responsible for objectivity of information in patient reviews — they represent the opinion of reviewers only.
A review is provided only by patients or their accompanying caregivers who have booked/visited the medical center via Bookimed.com, have been diagnosed/treated.
We publish both positive and negative reviews. Every review is moderated for compliance with Reviews&Comments Policy.
Bookimed partner hospitals cannot publish reviews on behalf of patients. We exclude any artificial rise/drop in the ranking.
The Best Cancer Hospital in the world, and all the staff treated my husband with special care .All of his care team.💯
This is not the great hospital it once was. They are arrogant and lack respect for their patients. We will be going somewhere were we can set appointments on our schedule. We waited for 30 minutes past our appointment time before walking out. This was our second appointment with Dr. Anne Tsao who is routinely 2 hours behind schedule. I would encourage more to walk. Maybe it will bring MD Anderson’s hubris into check.
To be such a top notch place to go and get cancer treatments and all the bloodwork and scans that goes with this treatment they sure don't care about your time...when you have to drive hours or spend a great deal of money on hotels just to come here and then spend money on treatments also for appointment at 8:45 and you are still waiting at 10:30 and just an fyi...was checked in at 8:00... no food or drink mind you either and appointments started at 7:00... but they say they are not running behind...and this is every time we come here...not happy with the way things are run here... our time is important also...be as considerate to our time as we are to yours...
Not only the best in the nation for cancer treatment but also remarkable for patient care, not only from our doctors but every staff member we’ve encountered.
I was so disappointed when I visited md Anderson with my father on his visit. I had expectations of this place being the gold standard of care and what I found was this not that. It is first a teaching hospital, second a for profit hospital, and third a market for experimental drugs. The teaching hospital means doctors oversee all kinds of students therefore they have a lot of responsibilities that take away from patient care. Second for profit means quality of care is the lowest because whatever is cheap is used not whatever is best. And finally when big pharma has a hand in any patient care, quality suffers because that is not their concern, getting drugs approved and selling them is what they are after. I would recommend any other facility for treatment including cancer treatment center.
Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. Immediately called and scheduled a consult. I was ordered to undergo a repeat mammogram and an ultrasound which confirmed diagnosis from my local physician. Literally from the first minute of doing my mammogram, I KNEW I had made the right decision. My treatment team were awesome!! I could not be more pleased. I have completed chemotherapy and recently had a mastectomy and will undergo reconstruction surgery later in the year, following radiation. From the doctors, nurses, physicians assistants, anesthetists and to the people who park my car, I have never been treated more kind. Thank you MD Anderson!! And thank you God for your healing!
THIS is the best place to be treated for glioblastoma brain cancer. Don't go with anyone else with less experience, less research, lesser equipment and resources. Trust me, time is of the essence when you're fighting grade 4 brain cancer. Caregivers, you will have much better support and access to education and resources too. MDA gave us time and hope other smaller hospitals could not. MDA has the largest Brain & Spine Institute in the US! And all the billing between departments is handled in house, under the MDA label. Which simplifies everything financially too. Make use of the Family Center, Patient Advocacy and free counseling from the Social Work department too.
A family member is being treated at MD Anderson for breast cancer. She has to fly in every week from Dallas for her treatments. The doctors are great. The problem is with how poorly the staff coordinate with the patients and with other departments. Patients flying in from out of town for treatment need to have everything scheduled on one day (chemo, blood work, x rays, CT scans, MRI's). Despite being repeatedly told this, staff in radiology and oncology don't seem able to perform basic tasks, are completely inefficient, and don't listen to patients. They repeatedly schedule tests on any day of the week, seemingly oblivious to the fact that the patient is not local. Patients have to constantly call in and remind different departments that they are coming in from out of town for tests. It adds far too much stress to patients already under a lot of stress dealing with their cancer treatments. Why is this even an issue? Staff need to be more competent, learn how to perform their tasks more efficiently, and communicate with patients more effectively. As it stands, the staff at MD Anderson do not act like they are part of a world class treatment centre, but an inefficient and clumsy hospital unable to get basic things right. This kind of treatment of patients is unacceptable.
By far the best cancer treatment facility in the world!! The doctors put you on a specialized program that is best for your illness. After that, the nurses guide you thru it with open minds and giving and caring souls. I’ve been coming here since April 2019 and I love it!! AAA+ facilities and employees!! Thank you for saving my life!
I have been a patient here since 2003. This is the best hospital in the world for cancer treatment. I was diagnosed when I was 25yrs old in San Antonio Texas and my hospitals did all they could for me. MD ANDERSON welcomed me with open arms😁. This place will make you and your loved ones feel at home.
As a volunteer here, I can say that it is a great place. The different locations in the Main and Mays buildings are unique and make patients feel like home.
Simply an incredible experience at MDA. The people, the attention to detail, the professionalism, the facilities and the list goes on and on.There’s a reason they’re rated No. 1.If you or a loved one needs medical care for cancer, look no further. This is the destination of your hopes and prayers.
Horrible. Wanted to do your big time testing instead of listening to the complaints of a patient. Never the first PET scan. Big money procedures first. Medicare pay attention. They ripping you off. Horrible people. Horrible. Personal care more like Personal agendas.
My Aunt was dying and I wasnt allowed in the room because I wasnt "immediate family" even though I was the one taking care of her! I didnt get my last goodbyes.. SHE SUFFERED, the nurses did nothing, and I couldnt be there! never again... never ever again... one of her nurses was also very rude! Gosh I wish I couldve remembered her name with some of the comments she was making she almost got slugged! I am beyond furious!
Every time my father-in-law goes here for his appointments ALL of the doctors are hours late. He ends up being at the hospital for 15+ hours on every SINGLE appointment day and sometimes over 24 hours. He is the last patient to leave even when his appointments are at 7AM. Consultations do not take hours. The staff of this center do not care about anyone else's time but their own. Most of this time is spent in the waiting area. Might as well not make appointments since they're never on time. When my FIL mentions side effects from the treatments the doctors tell him to go to the ER instead of explaining that chemo is a serious treatment and causes a multitude of symptoms that can potentially be different for every patient. Seems like they only want to run his bills up higher instead of caring for their patients.
It’s much easier to talk to your president than to talk to your doctor. They stopped my father’s treatment after 3 chemo cycles because of some missing information from the health plan. The only thing they care about is money .
My spouse is getting treatment for a relatively rare cancer, requiring inpatient chemo and surgery. While it took us a minute to learn how to navigate the large campus and institutional structures and processes, the care at MDA has been mostly great, despite our difficult situation. Specifically, the techs, nurses, NPs/PAs, social workers, and docs in our main clinics and the sarcoma med-onc floor have been mostly wonderful. When we've encountered problems or bad attitudes, they've usually been in support/adjunct/admin units like financial clearance. Some (but not all) of those problems are rooted in the country and state's messed up insurance/sickcare system. Overall, we're grateful for this important public institution and hope it continues to improve access to excellent cancer care.
Great experience, very courteous staff and the doctor was awesome.
Number 2 cancer centre in the world .Amazing treatment and beat for academics.
Everyone at MD Anderson, from the doctors to the valet workers, are amazingly pleasant. Appointments go according to schedule mostly; I never had to wait much past my scheduled appointment time. They understand that no one there is having their best day, and make things as easy as possible. My doctors were always quick to get back to me when I had questions or problems. Hands down the best medical facility I have ever had occasion to visit. If only my regular doctor's office ran so smoothly!
Great Thyroid Cancer Care Dept and other preventative tests. Staff is amazing. It's like a puzzle, but once you go several times, you understand the lay of the land. Great place! I thank them for keeping me in remission.
For those of you who are or have loved ones seeking treatment for cancer please read this. I gave 4 stars for only the doctors. For the rest I would had given 1 star. There are 2 faces of MD Anderson: the doctors and the support staff. The doctors are without doubt the top physicians in their field. I know this because they saved my mother's life. But there is another face or side to MD Anderson that will surprise you - the seemingly lackluster support staff. On the day of my mother's cancer surgery, the lab work on her blood specimen report was not received by her surgeon and forcing us and the doctor to contact those responsible to get the result. When the surgery was completed successfully, the staff moved her to her hospital room, they transferred her from the rolling bed she was transported in to the bed in her room. In doing so, they got the IV tubes/hoses tangled and caught which ripped it out of her arm - there was blood everywhere and she was in great pain. Thank God they got the bleed stopped. She had a ugly large bruise on her arms for nearly 2 months. But it did not end there: after she was allowed to come home I had to contact MD Anderson for questions regarding her medications and what we thought was a problem resulting from the surgery. I called the phone number for outpatient help we were given by the hospital staff and got a messaging service who paged a nurse or physician on call. After waiting an hour and no one called back, I called again and same result. I ended up having to call a relative who was a doctor for help. As for the call back from MD Anderson, someone did callback - over 12 hours (the next day) later. And this illustrates another problem in that there is no means to directly contact the doctor's office. Even when I call the main help number, they will connect me to the doctor's nurse phone but will not give the phone number for me to call directly. But every time my call is transferred to the nurse's office, no one picks up (not even once) and you go straight to voice mail which sometimes does not work - it hangs up after telling you to leave a message. Last, there is the ongoing problem with appointment scheduling in that EVERY scheduled appointment ended up having some changes due to mistakes or mix up. We have yet to have one single scheduled appointment that occurred without changes or me having to contact the physician's office to get things corrected before the date of appointment. Before cancer affected my family, I would never have imagined that the world class medical center at MD Anderson would have such a poor support staff. While grateful to the doctors who are truly the best, I am very disappointed with the rest at MD Anderson.
I've been here at least 10 times in the last few months, my mother-in-law has cancer. She's probably been her 100 times in the past year. When I drive her its easy to get around because she knows where to go, when we walk in she directs us and knows the best routes to take. If I'm coming here to meet her its a bit more difficult. But everyone who works here is very nice and helpful, we are amazed at the consistently good customer service!
For how much they charge, you'd think you'll be getting more. Actually, the wait time is pretty long. Don't get me wrong, they do provide excellent treatment. They can use a bit of re-structuring to make things more efficient.
I’m appalled at some of the reviews that’s being wrote on here, usually people that write reviews are the ones that’s upset, I had to stop reading them, one place said it’s Ghetto, its actually more like a luxury hospital, you would have to see it yourself. . M.D. Anderson is Amazing, the #1 doctors from all over the world are here. I’m sorry that you’re loved one may not of made it but remember it’s cancer and the best chance they had is at MD Anderson. I’m 37 and I’m flying here from the other side of the country once a month for the last 7 months (all expenses paid because I’m in a clinical trial, paid by the drug maker). I was diagnosed with a rare cancer, like one out of 200 or so be diagnosed, it’s a tumor in my salivary gland on my jaw. I was told by other hospitals that I have no option but cut it out and the side of my face be paralyzed, I couldn’t imagine and felt I rather be dead. I’m in a clinical trial taking a pill twice a day and it’s basically gone, on a PET scan it’s not there and barely visible on a MRI, it’s possible it’ll be totally gone soon, if not they can do surgery without harming the nerves. The surgeon here is no shit the #1 head and neck surgeon in the world and he says there’s no need for surgery. Im forever grateful. If you’re told you have no chance by your doctor then I recommend you get a second opinion here. They can’t save everyone but it’s your best chance.
I regret taking my father to the hospital and I truly regret telling my father to put his faith into this hospital. It was watching him be tortured and taken from us in 2 weeks and then to be told sorry would you like an autopsy to find out what killed him. I forever will blame them for my father's death.
Wife died during treatment at MD Anderson. Death certifcate was signed and dated by the staff at MD Anderson. I had no relationship with her insurance at all (i've always had my own). Continue to receive threatening letters from MD Anderson to her (she's been dead for more than a year) that if she doesn't pay, it's going to collections and then further, which is hilarious, because again she's dead. Screw this place, and the horse it road in on.
When you come here long enough you will see the other side of it. The quality have going down by those bad apples. Some nurses and staffs have very bad attatue toward to you and you can feel that they don't care about you at all. And some are refuses to helping patients feel comfortable while on treatments.
MD Anderson in my opinion is THE place to be if you are fighting cancer. They review your case with fifty physicians who are top in their field of expertise to come up with the best plan to fight your cancer. They are thorough in their testing and deliver excellent patient care. My husband was told elsewhere that all they could do was radiation to buy him more time, but MD Anderson said we will do surgery which will remove 95% of the cancer and use chemo and radiation to fight the remaining cancer. They gave us hope. All of the doctors, nurses and staff are top notch!
I just love looking at this waterfall that I had to post this up. So relaxing and awe inspiring.
Best Cancer Center of Excellence! Terrible Customer Support & Pain ManagementEveryone there is working hard to cure us- We are survivors! Dr. Pagliaro and his team are amazing, talented, and blessed! I just wish the Supportive Care Department was better at their job. I've been seeing them for over 2 months and they haven't even ordered a simple blood test to see where this pain might be coming from.
I had the luxury of a nurse Practitioner Helen Monroe that was very rude and did not listen to the patient. Came in for a colonoscopy screening and talked more about the risks of the procedure than understanding my symptoms!. I have gone to various international hospitals and never been treated so insignificantly. There is no human touch to her approach. Unfortunately as part of the Shell program I have to use this service.
This place deserves a minus five. Worst customer care we have ever experienced. We traveled a long way to come for the "best cancer care" in America. The patients here are treated like cattle. And then they changed the appointments for care out another week Without even consulting us. Absolutely horrific treatment. If you come here you may be one of the lucky ones. God help you if you are not.
We spent seven years enduring not only my husband’s cancer diagnosis, but also the horrific lack of continuity and communication that is extremely prevalent at MD Anderson. And to add insult to injury, no one is held accountable for this ignorance. They all just talk about each other, you know as good cop, bad cop. Be very careful when approaching this facility for your cancer needs. Record every word spoken, because it will change minute to minute, with ZERO recollection from the source that spoke it. It’s a scary place, so don’t go in there alone, have a patient advocate with you, and a caregiver that will be your extra set of eyes and ears. There are many many stories like mine, and I promise you, protect yourself. They are a very poorly managed business with an incredibly broken system. Pay attention, because they aren’t.
The Doctors meet you personally every time and work you into the system, even if you're over booked. The Nursing staff is fantastic, as well! I hope you never get cancer, but they are the #1 choice if you do.
My husband was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer. We were advised to go to MD Anderson for a second opinion. After a six week frustrating process of making phone calls every single day we finally made the flight to Texas to meet with their specialist. He walked into the room and told us he didn't know why we were there because they needed the sample from our initial surgery/tumor. Six weeks of calling every single day asking them if they needing anything and they never said anything. They let us take off work, fly to Texas, get hotel rooms and show up for an appointment that they knew wasn't necessary. After WE made arrangements to have the sample sent to MD Anderson they told us they would look at it and give us results a few days later. The night before they were going to give us results they called and cancelled. We flew home with no answers. If MD Anderson is one of the top rated cancer hospitals we are in serious trouble. As far as I am concerned, they should have to pay our hotel, parking, food, travel and missed wages for their mistakes and for them to sit in front of us and say, "Ooops! Sorry."
On the date of 28/10/2019 at 9:30 when I went to the hospital with my mother Lattman on the state of health and when he was interviewed by the specialist doctor to treat my mother on the ninth floor room number 16 Interface problem with the translator Sumaya because of not speaking respect and not tell us all what the experience of Dr. and Do not tell the doctor what my mother feels from the pain and I had a previous complaint on these translated on 13/13/2019 and no action was taken in the right and when we asked for the help of Dr. Name Doctor Hale Kemp change the translation of the threat and screaming and it is not You have the right to change the translation knowing that my country pays all the expenses of treatment and translation funds if you do not like a Stop treatment for you from what shaped my mother mental fatigue and dispersion and lack of focus and we were given an unwanted medicine and the hospital administration did not respond to any complaints made
For 2 years my fiance has been receiving treatment at MD Anderson. I have heard more negative than positive. It is a cattle drive and as a patient you are just a # providing a pay check. They have horrible bed side manner and do NOT care about people. If you do not have insurance, they will REFUSE treatment. HORRIBLE!This is absurd and the TRUTH will eventually reach the masses and institutions like this will die. If you are dealing with cancer and illness, check out the China Study and watch Forks over Knives.Take control of your life, make better nutritional choices, and start exercising. God Bless and I pray this review helps you.
MD Anderson is a well advanced cancer research facility but they might not be aware of more going on other research institutes.Do you want to know alternative methods that would surprise you and save you thousands of dollars? There are two American cancer centers that are actively researching on mycology and applications - City of Hope and Memorial Sloan Kettering. But there are some quite advanced researches done already and their products already continue to save even Stage IV cancer patients - most rejected by hospitals and expert doctors. You wanted to hear more? My brother suffered from throat cancer without eating and drinking for 3 days, and he is well now..
Our experience with MDA has been way beyond 5 stars. The staff in all have all been exceptional, from greeters, traffic control, cleaning staff to our medical team. The prayers, care even occasional singers was comforting in all respects. After our experiences in other places, we wouldn't consider going anywhere else. God bless MDA and all connected to you.
Really dislike the non english speaking/ thick accents. I could not understand anything that is being said especially when it came to medical terms. The phone call took way too long and I feel that neither of us understood each other enough to get anything accomplished. I understand this is a great hospital but when the representative on the line get frustrated with the customer calling in because i can't hear past his thick accent, that's a problem for me.
The best hospital I have ever beentreated from admitting, diagnosis, through surgery and release. I will always remember the friendly faces of everyone I met. EVERYONE!
A friendly place. I like the chapel.
