Seoul St. Mary's Hospital was founded in 1980 on premises of the Catholic University of Korea. The hospital consists of 43 departments and 24 specialized centers.

According to the St. Mary’s Hospital’s data, the medical facility is the 5th in bone marrow transplants — over 7,300 procedures have been performed here (about 500 stem cell transplants per year).
In 1983, specialists conducted the first allogeneic bone marrow transplant in South Korea. Such a procedure helps to restore blood formation in a patient with hematologic malignancies after high-dose chemotherapy.

Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital was the first in South Korea to conduct:

- cornea transplant in 1980;
- small intestine transplant in 2004.
Doctors of the hospital have performed about 1,000 liver transplants, 3,000 kidney transplants, and 3,400 cornea transplants up to 2018.

Advanced surgeries such as Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and hybrid treatment are provided to patients with severe aortic stenosis. TAVI is a type of minimally invasive surgery which reduces skin trauma and speeds up the recovery period.
